Ahead of the February general elections, candidates of various political parties in Ekiti have adopted door-to-door campaign in Ikole-Ekiti Local Government Area of the state. The candidates were sighted on Wednesday wooing the electorate for votes on streets in Ikole. Party supporters were sighted at Oke-Ijebu, Ara road, Otunja, Isaba, Odo-Oro, Ayedun, Igbonna and Orisumibare distributing leaflets containing pictures and manifesto of candidates seeking for votes. Noticeable among the political parties involved in the exercise were the PDP, APC and the Labour Party. Some of the party stalwarts said the door-to-door campaign would enable them to reach out to many voters to woo them for their candidates. According to him, the exercise becomes necessary because many of the voters in the area do not attend political rallies. Mr James Olawale, a chieftain of PDP in Ikole, said door-to-door campaign strategy was as old as democracy in Nigeria. “It has been the most effective method of wooing electorate for votes in their bedrooms and it provides opportunity for us as party leaders to know the problems of our people,“ Olawale said.On his part, Chief Isaac Ajayi, an APC supporter in the area, said his party had been using door-to-door method to canvass for votes since 1999. He said that the party intensified its campaign recently due to the importance its attached to the February polls. “APC needs to work harder to win the votes of our people because the party is not in power in the state and it requires one-on-one talk with every eligible voter,’’
